SLX is moving on to its next generation!

A preliminary version of SLX 2.0 is now available for downloading on our Testers page. We anticipate a relatively short beta test program.

Proof 5 Released

P5 builds on the strengths of its predecessor, P4, and takes 2D animation to new heights.  P5 runs in a resizable window, allowing it to coexist harmoniously with other applications.  P4 required exclusive control of the entire screen and occasionally got into "turf wars" with other applications.

Proof 3D Beta Now Available

Proof 3D (P3D) is now available for beta testing by existing P4/P5 licensees.  P3D is an exciting new package that provides affordable, high-quality 3D animation.  Like its 2D predecessors, P3D can move thousands of objects smoothly.  P3D provides the ability to import detailed, high-quality 3D objects, and for users who require only schematic animations, P3D provides built-in 3D drawing tools.

Animation Prices Lowered!

Wolverine has concluded that animation software is too expensive.  Our pricing for Proof 3D will come as a surprise to many, because until now 3D animation software has been very expensive.  We have significantly reduced the prices of our 2D animation software (the P5 family), making 2D animation extremely affordable.

Wolverine demonstrated the latest version of Proof 3D at the Winter Simulation Conference, held in Washington, DC.  We showed a 3D animation constructed in its entirety using P3D's internal drawing tools.  P3D's animation engine has been in beta testing for quite some time, but prior to WSC '07, animation development tools were lacking.

Wolverine's products are now running under 32- and 64-bit Windows Vista™.

The appearance of Proof Animation under Vista is very poor, so we do not recommend running Proof under Vista; however...

We have released Proof 5 (P5), which offers a number of enhancements to Proof, and it runs beautifully under Vista. P5 runs in a window, so it coexists harmoniously with other applications. Click here for further information.

The 2006 Winter Simulation Conference was a great success.  Many Wolverine customers were at the conference and attended Wolverine's traditional users' group meeting.  Jim Henriksen was this year's "Titan of the Industry." He delivered an hour-long talk entitled "Taming the Complexity Dragon."  You can get a copy of an expanded version of Jim's talk (revised 12/18) by clicking here.

The version of SLX known as "SLX Classic" has been retired.  We are now shipping SLX-32 and SLX-64, run on 32-bit Windows and the X64 version of Windows XP, respectively.  The 32- and 64-bit versions of SLX share 99% common source code.  The 64-bit version of SLX can handle models that exceed the 2GB memory limitations of 32-bit Windows.  We have not run SLX under the pre-release versions of Windows Vista, but will do so when Vista is released.

A preliminary Proof 3D Demo is now available for downloading.  The download is available at the bottom of our Downloads page.

A beta version of SLX-32 is now available for downloading on our Testers page.  This version of SLX incorporates a major shift in tools Wolverine uses to develop SLX.  We have switched to Microsoft Visual Studio™.  This offers three advantages.  First and foremost, conversion to MS tools assures longevity.  Second, it allows us to employ 99% common source code between the 32-bit version of SLX and the new 64-bit version.  Finally, it will allow us to better integrate Proof 3D, which is a Direct3D™ application, into SLX in the future.  We strongly urge existing SLX users to try SLX-32, because it is the SLX of the future.  We'd like to phase out support of the old version of SLX as soon as we receive sufficient positive feedback about SLX-32.

An alpha version of 64-bit SLX is now available for testing.  SLX-64 runs under Windows XP Professional - X64.  In the near future, we'll be testing SLX-64 under the Beta 64-bit version of Microsoft Vista™.  SLX-64 runs as a true 64-bit application.  As of this writing, XP Pro - X64 provides access to a 43-bit address space.  If you have a very large application, SLX-64 will be able to handle it.  For a number of reasons, SLX-64 is available only in CD form at this time.  Let us know if you're interested.

The latest version of SLX now contains Windows help for material contained in Chapter 2 of simulation Using SLX.  This addition enhances the usability of SLX by providing on-line help and examples.  (See our Testers page.)

Draft copies of the Foreword, Chapter 1, and Chapter 2 of Simulation Using SLX, a new book about SLX, have been posted on the SLX Updates page.

We have launched our Testers Page.  This page contains experimental versions of our software.  We'll soon be posting copies of SLX M32 and Proof 3D on this page.  For details, please follow the above link.

Wolverine demonstrated a preliminary version of Proof 3D at the Winter Simulation Conference.  Proof 3D is able to smoothly move thousands of 3-dimensional objects.  The syntax of Proof layout and traces files has been extended to three dimensions.  Of course, many Proof constructs are inherently 1-demensional, and therefore are identical to 2D versions of Proof.  For example, when an object is placed on a path, it is placed at a linear distance along the path.

We plan to deliver a full product in spring 2006.  In a month or so, we'll be adding a "Testers" page to this website to make alpha versions of Proof 3D available for testing.

Two significant enhancements are provided in the latest versions of SLX.  The SLX Debugger has a new "smart cursor" feature.  When enabled, this feature displays the values of model variables whenever the cursor hovers over the variable names in a source code window.  All this happens automatically with no mouse clicks required.  The second new feature is an internal performance monitor that shows you where the CPU time is consumed in a model.  If you have models that run for a long time, this feature will allow you to identify and reduce or eliminate bottlenecks in your code.  Details are posted on the Updates page.

Software updates for GPSS/H and Proof are now available on our Updates page.  Note that running updated commercial versions of GPSS/H and Proof requires a conforming license date on your security key (dongle).  See details on the Updates page.

Proof's HTML files now work under Windows XP SP2.

October 11, 2004

For those of you who are thinking about installing Windows XP Service Pack 2, we have good news and mildly bad news.  The good news is that SLX, Proof, and GPSS/H run without difficulty under Windows XP SP2.  The mildly bad news is that Proof's HTML help files (a fairly recent development) are unusable, due to security changes made in SP2.  This same change affects "Getting Started" information that we began distributing with brand new installations several months ago.  We have fixes for these problems and will post them on our Updates page soon.  In the interim, if you're adversely affected by XP SP2, send us an email, and we'll update you manually.

September 3, 2004

We have added an Updates page for existing commercial customers. The first update is the latest version of SLX. We'll be adding updates of GPSS/H and Proof in the near future.
